Drawing upon decades of experience in composition, improvisation, orchestration, and cross-cultural musical traditions, Dawoud creates original music for film, theater, dance, multimedia projects, and artistic installations.

Projects may incorporate acoustic instruments, electronic textures, orchestral arrangements, improvisation, or hybrid approaches that combine multiple musical worlds. The goal is not simply to accompany the work, but to help reveal and support its emotional and narrative dimensions.

Mythic Soundscapes – Custom Musical Worlds.

Some ideas are difficult to express through words alone.

Mythic Soundscapes offers the opportunity to explore a personal story, dream, image, or theme through an original musical work created specifically for you. These projects can take the form of a private live performance, a custom recording, or an evolving creative collaboration.

The process begins with a conversation. Together, we explore the themes, images, questions, and stories that matter most to you. These elements then serve as the foundation for a unique composition created through the Dautar, electronics, improvisation, and, when appropriate, additional instruments, spoken word, or other artistic elements.

Themes may emerge from mythology, literature, personal experience, speculative worlds, spiritual traditions, or entirely original concepts. Some commissions begin with a detailed narrative. Others begin with a single image or feeling.

Each project includes original music accompanied by liner notes and visual artwork, creating a complete artistic artifact that reflects the ideas that inspired it.

The Living Score — An evolving composition developed over the course of a year, with new movements and revisions responding to significant events, discoveries, and transitions.

The Liminal Library — An ongoing creative subscription featuring original recordings, visual art, literary fragments, and related works delivered throughout the year.

Technical instruction is widely available. Creative guidance is something different.

These sessions are designed for musicians seeking to deepen their artistic voice, expand their creative vocabulary, and develop a more personal relationship with their craft.

Rather than focusing exclusively on technique, the work explores the broader questions that shape artistic growth:

What musical ideas feel most natural to you?
What creative habits support your development?
What influences deserve deeper exploration?
What possibilities remain unexplored?

Together, we may examine composition, improvisation, listening practices, technique, creative process, musical traditions, and experimental approaches to sound-making. Every project begins with an idea. Sometimes the challenge is discovering the form it wants to take.

Drawing upon experience in fiction, essays, poetry, music journalism, philosophical writing, and interdisciplinary creative work, Dawoud offers writing services for individuals, artists, organizations, and creative projects.

Some clients arrive with a completed concept and need assistance bringing it to life. Others begin with little more than a question, image, or fragment of an idea. Both approaches are welcome.

Music Meditation Sessions.

​

For some people, listening is more than entertainment. It is a contemplative practice.

The Music Meditation Sessions grew out of Dawoud's long exploration of improvisation, sound, attention, and altered states of listening. Rather than following a prescribed meditation script or guided visualization, participants are invited to engage directly with the experience of sound itself.

During a session, participants sit or lie comfortably while improvised music unfolds in real time. There is no required interpretation and no intended destination. The music simply provides a space in which each participant may have their own experience.

Over the years, participants have described a wide variety of responses, including:

Deep relaxation
Heightened concentration
Emotional insight
Creative inspiration
Vivid imagery
Reflective or contemplative states

Because each session is improvised, the music is shaped by the moment and the people present. No two sessions are identical.
